Around the globe, investigative journalists have helped to shine a light on the millions of people trapped in child labor and forced labor, abuses often hidden in the supply chains of big brands and consumer products.

Join the U.S. Department of Labor for the launch of their annual flagship reports on child labor and forced labor and explore the power of journalism in the fight to end labor exploitation.

Department leaders will share the latest research findings on the scope and nature of child labor and forced labor around the globe as well as their updated tools to combat these abuses. Then, peek behind the lens of youth photojournalists documenting child labor in their communities and hear from a panel of investigative journalists about their work exposing labor exploitation in global supply chains.

The videos below present extracts of the first thematic dialogue of Alliance 8.7 Pathfinder Countries.  The online event, held in May 2022, bought together members of the Alliance to discuss how to accelerate progress towards SDG Target 8.7.  The thematic dialogue focused on the topic of recruitment, which can be a gateway to severe abuses that can amount to human trafficking and forced labour.  Participants exchanged on practical measures taken by governments and social partners to promote fair recruitment in their respective countries.

The short videos cover the presentation made by the governments of Tunisia and Mexico, and from an employers' organization in Mexico, and a workers' organization in Tunisia.

Watch the video with speakers from Mexico here, and with the speakers from Tunisia here.

Tech Against Trafficking Summit, 27-28 September

An estimated 40 million men, women and children are victims of modern slavery on any given day.  Over the last decade, technology has fundamentally changed the way modern day slavery can be eradicated across global supply chains.  Human traffickers can be held accountable for their crimes, and survivors can be empowered to see justice restored.

Which technologies are working, what needs additional support, and how can we enhance sustainable cross-sector collaboration to support catalytic solutions?

For the first time, Tech Against Trafficking is bringing together stakeholders from global business, civil society and government to accelerate the impact of innovative technologies and practical solutions addressing human exploitation.  Participants will include global leaders from Microsoft, MIT, the OSCE, Polaris and Working Capital.

To join the Summit, register here.
